When Fewer is More: Exploring the Possibilities of Learning Centers

Learning Center

When Learning Centers are effectively used they can provide opportunities for young children to explore, play, and have meaningful experiences that relate to their world. How can Learning Centers be designed to support children in making choices, collaborating on ideas, and moving into socio dramatic play? Discover ways to prepare the environment, make center selection, and promote positive social interactions. Investigate how Centers can assist children as they develop persistence, responsibility, and refine their language skills. This session will provide ways to transform traditional Centers, add new sparks with unique Centers, and use observations to enrich areas. Collect ideas for recording and extending the learning that is taking place in these focused small groups.
